Kick Off to Soccer Season

Seattle is buzzing with the excitement of their team’s start to a new season. That’s right, the Sounders are back in business.

The 2016 winning team is back, along with a few new additions to the team.

Will Bruin, a new forward, has joined the Sounders after being with the Houston Dynamo for six years.

Harry Shipp, midfielder, came to the Sounders after playing for the Chicago Fire for two years and the Montreal Impact for one year.

Gustav Svensson, another midfielder, has played for IFK Goteborg for four years, Bursaspor for two years, Tarivya for two years, IFK Goteborg again for one year, then Guangzhou R&F for one year. Now, he is apart of the Seattle Sounders.

Although there have been some gains, the Sounders lost Tyrone Mears. He moved and joined the Atlanta United Fc.

The Seattle Sounders ended last season with a huge success. After an incredible season, they managed to win the MLS Cup.

Clint Dempsey returned to the team after being out due to medical reasons. He made a comeback when he scored a goal in the season opener.

The season opener’s first half ended with the Sounders losing to Houston Dynamo 0-2. They picked it up in the second half when Dempsey scored a goal.

Unfortunately, the Sounders lost the season opener game on March 4,2017 in Houston. The final score was 1-2.

In the second game of the 2017 season on March 11, the Sounders ended with a tied score of 2-2. The game took place in Montreal.

Montreal Impact led the game by two goals up until the end of the game.

Nicolas Lodeiro scored one goal for the Sounders off of a penalty shot in minute 82. At this point the Sounders were still losing 1-2.

It was during the stoppage time when something amazing happened. In the minute 94, a new addition to the Sounders 2017 team, Will Bruin, scored his first goal for the team.

The final score was 2-2, leaving the Sounders season score so far to be 0-1-1.

In their home opener on March 19, 2017, the Sounders fans and team honorably received the trophy for winning the MLS cup. They raised a banner in Century Link Field.

Following the ceremony was the home opener game against the New York Red Bulls. The Sounders won with a final score of 3-1.

Dempsey scored the first goal off of a penalty kick in minute 28. The Red Bulls tied the game in minute 57.

Jordan Morris headed the ball in after a kick by Lodeiro in minute 66. To finish off the game, Shipp scored in minute 79. The final score was 3-1

On Saturday March 25, 2017, the Sounders have a friendly game with Club Necaxa in Seattle.

Their next regular match will take place Friday March 31, 2017 against Atlanta United FC at home.
