MINNEAPOLIS, MN — Court records obtained by FOX 9 Investigators show the suspect in Wednesday evening’s downtown Minneapolis apartment complex shooting was already facing eviction after earlier threats involving a gun. Police have not named the man, but records identify a 35-year-old resident of Loring Towers who had lived there since March 2025.
Several people were shot just after 4:30 p.m. on the building’s ninth floor. The records tie the eviction case to statements the man allegedly made to security staff, management personnel and other residents before the attack. A hearing in the eviction matter had been scheduled for Sept. 11.
Eviction case centered on gun threats and openly displayed firearm
According to the court filings, the man first drew concern last June after he reportedly made statements to a security officer about using a firearm. The records say he lifted up his shirt to show the gun, an act that became part of the eviction proceedings.
The filings say the concerns did not end there. On June 11, he allegedly walked around the property with a firearm visible, entered the management office and displayed the weapon to multiple staff members. He also allegedly told other residents that he had obtained a new gun and would kill someone.
Two days later, he allegedly flashed the gun again on a nearby sidewalk. FOX 9 reports that he denied the allegations in the eviction case.
Shooting unfolded on the ninth floor of Loring Towers
The shooting happened in a downtown apartment complex where the suspect lived on the ninth floor, the same area where several people were shot Wednesday afternoon. The violence broke out just after 4:30 p.m., according to the account provided by FOX 9.
