Traditional Nursery Rhyme- excerpt from novel

I have reread this book once a year since 6th grade. It’s a page turner for sure. From the very first sentence: “There was a hand in the darkness, and it held a knife.” we’re thrust into a mystery that runs straight into a plot twist you never would’ve guessed would happen. For those of you who are interested, this novel is written by the same author who wrote Coraline. Remember that movie that haunted your dreams as a child? The one where the girl almost had her eyes turned into buttons so the fake mother in another world could keep the girl’s soul until she was finished eating it? It was first a book, and Neil Gaiman wrote it. (Just so you know, this novel is far less terrifying and disturbing. My teacher read it to us when I was 11, and it did not give me nightmares like Coraline did.) This is easier to read at night and more satisfying.
